Enhancing Vocabulary Learning

The teachers in teaching English as a second language (ESL) use many methods to teach Vocabulary for the secondary classes. This is because each class will be made up of different students each with his or her own learning style. Giving only the meaning for unknown words is not sufficient. The teacher has to use effective methods. Then only the students will be able to understand, to write, spell correctly, to pronounce correctly, and to use the words constructively in writing and speaking. Therefore, it is essential to find out the effectiveness of different methodologies used for the teaching of vocabulary and help the students and teachers to accelerate the teaching and learning process. As an English teacher, I have used the Read To Me app, visual aids, giving grammar structures, and using jumbled letter cards. All methods are based on spelling, pronunciation, meaning, and grammar. Vocabulary is important for students who are learning ESL classes. Second language learners are learning English with vocabulary. Second-language learners can easily gain vocabulary from textbooks. As a teacher, I have found most of the second language learners in ESL classrooms, are not capable of learning vocabulary using English Textbooks. They make spelling mistakes when they write words, they do not know how to use words, they do not know the meaning of the words and they do not know how to pronounce the words.

As a solution, I have used the Read To Me app, jumbled letter cards, and visual aids for teaching the students. I have experienced that the students learn the vocabulary effectively with the methods. The usage of effective methods while teaching and learning can facilitate strengthening the foundation and development of the constructing sentences. It can take the learning experience to an interesting level as it can make the learning a pleasant experience. I have studied whether the methods, the Read To Me app, using visual aids, giving grammar structures using the selected vocabulary, and using jumbled letter cards have effectiveness in teaching learning vocabulary.
